We got it!

Well the Z made it home safe & sound.  So the car does run, but very rough.  Now the real fun begins!

12 hours & counting

After tracking santa on radar (well my car on the road) its finally at the Markim transit center. Received a call saying the Z would be dropped off between 6am & 9am on Tuesday!!

DAS just updated that the car is now in transit to Mesquite TX.  At least its moving in the right direction (north).  I'm starting to think of that song "I've been everywhere" with all of the cities listed.

Loaded Up & Truckin'

The Z was loaded up successfully by DAS and is now sitting in their transit hub in Austin TX with a 'to be loaded' status.  Here's another picture provided by the seller.

Purchase

Well I found a deal I couldn't pass up.  A 1972 240z in Georgetown, TX that is being sold by the original owner (yes a 40 year old car with only 1 owner!).  It does have some minor rust in the rear fenders and the paint is very heavily oxidized on the outside surfaces....but no structural rust!  The deal includes a wealth of spare parts and two sets of seats.  Only challenge is shipping it upto Chicago, but I was able to get a pretty good deal with DAS and an expected delivery date or 23-April-2012.

When this car is 'all done' it will no longer be brown and the horrible 'gold' hubcaps will be replaced with a set of nice alloy wheels.  I'm looking to keep it period correct and a reliable car that I could drive on a daily basis if I so chose to.

Welcome to my Blog

Welcome to my first ever Blog on the internet!  I'm hoping to share my fun (and I'm sure stressful) experiences of purchasing a car sight-unseen, restoring, and enjoying it.  Call it my early mid-life crisis, but this is a hobby and project I've been looking forward to for quite some time.

I've been looking for a Datsun 240z for a little amount of time now, but all I'm seeing in the Midwest are rust buckets or half-restored vehicles.  I'll be expanding my search to the west and to the south (outside of the rust belt).  I almost picked up a barn-find in Arizona but the seller wanted way too much...my search continues.
